I put together an event that I called All MINI Track Day, in fact I put together 4 of them. Most everyone knows that I am a MA at the MINI Center. But I would like to do this as a club event, and not a MINI Center sponsored event. I am thinking about a Go Kart event held at Iron Rock Raceway in Austin. I have already talked to Berk, and he has agreed to give me a hand in this. This would be a event that would take up 4 Sundays in a row, and it would be a San Antonio vs Austin event. We are talking about 3 Sundays of practice & the last would be a time trial. The top 3 times would earn a gift, and the city that had the best time would get to take home the trophy. Please, remember Berk and I are in the VERY beginning stages of this thought process, so we have not figured out everything as of yet! The reason that I posted this is to ask a few questions. Please understand that this will cost money, and like I said before it will not get sponsorship from the MINI Center! Before we get to involved with this we want to know how many of you would be interested in doing a event such as this. Another question is what is the most that you would be willing to pay to attend something like this? Please remember this is all the information that we have at this point, in fact he and I started talking about this tonight!
Thanks,
Faron & Berk
I would be interested, just depends on the timeframe. These last two months are gonna be killer at work. Also does these mean we would be using the shifter karts?

Like I said before, we are in beginning stages of this so I don't have much information as of yet! I emailed Iron Rock Raceway last night and they have already got in touch. I will be as open as I can with this as we go, but for the most part I have said everything I know up to this point! We will use karts, but I doubt shifter karts. The karts we will use are more then fast enough for beginners. I will keep you up to date! :thumbsup
How can any MINI owner not be all over this!! :D

I'm in Faron! But I guess you probably already knew this. As far as pricing...for 4 Sundays of Go Kart Racing about $200. Doesn't sound to unreasonable for a months worth of entertainment!

I'm interested. At first though I thought you were talking about racing our MINIs on the track like they let us do at that Karting event. Would that be feasible? Karts would be fun too.
The only thing I can see being a slight problem is the 4 Sundays in a row. Well I don't know if you are going to have them in a row but that's what it sounds like. Many people have something else to do at least one weekend out of a month. So if you could only make 1 or 2 weekends and then you have to pay for the whole thing that would kinda stink. Maybe you guys could look at one weekend for practice then the following weekend have the time trials. Just some suggestions. :thumbsup

Yes we thought about that as well, and it is not a option that has been counted out! This is GREAT, we are in the very beginning stages of this.....anyone else have a suggestion??? Why is everyone so darn quiet!
I am beginning to think that only handful of people like the idea. This can not and will not happen unless we can get somewhere in the neighborhood of 40 to 50 people to get this going! I am going to post this idea on a couple of other sites as well!

By the way the cost for taking Our cars out on the track is about triple. Let me know if everyone would be more interested in a group autocross in our own cars. I can figure out a way to make that happen as well! Let me know what you would like to do! The cost for an autocross would be much less expensive, however I want to put on a fun event no matter what it is.

I think a group autocross would be fun. Maybe at Fiesta Texas or Verizon. I know when I raced on the kart track those walls made me nervous. It would be just MINI vs. MINI and not your typical autocross. :thumbsup Maybe we could have it once a month or once every other month.
Racing in Austin would probably be better with go-karts. I think that would be more of a half day or one day event. Triple the price sounds like it would be a lot to race our cars on it. It might be tough to get 40 or 50 people to risk their car.
I vote for the group autocross.

dunno
I really like this idea Faron, are we reaching out to other groups/clubs for this. I can tell you now that my buddies over at HMS would be all over this if the timing was right. Those guys were a blast to hang out with and motor with during the co-events we have had.

I think they were hoping for more input from more than just a handful of members. Don't be afraid to post...we can't bite you.

 I have been really quiet on this because I don't see much of an interest from people. I will not have financial support from the MINI Center, so I am concerned about being able to raise the funds. :eek2 I think Weezer is right, it would be great to have a all MINI Auto-Cross once and a while. Is this the direction that I should be heading? I know of a parking lot that we could use, but just to rent the parking lot the cost would be $1000.00. That is not to mention the cost for Insurance, timing equipment, lets not forget the cones. Ohh and I had the local autocross SCCA give me a quote to help me put together a MINI Auto-Cross and their proposal was somewhere between $4000. and $5000. for one weekend. I think everyone knows how to get in touch with me but I will post it again, if you have an idea PLEASE let me know. minifaron@yahoo.com It been a long time since I have been able to ENJOY my MINI, I gotta get out there! :thumbsup
:( I am taking my wife to go see her family for Thanksgiving. I will be pulling out of here this evening, and I will not be back to work until Sunday night. I am hoping that I will have Internet access but I don't know!

I got a email from Iron Rock Raceway in Austin, and its just not going to happen. I don't think that I can raise the kind of money it takes to pull it together. After adding it all together, it would cost somewhere in the neighborhood of $7000.00. It simply is not going to happen like this, so it off to the drawing board for me. Humm Poker run anyone?

What would it take to legally block off a country road for a day so we could have a rally?
