Yesterday after coming home in a rainstorm I left my parking lights on and the battery drained down. My son and I pushed started my mini and now the service engine light is on. Is this a problem? like leaving the gascap loose. Will it go off by itself or is a dealer trip necessary? any ideas?
It should clear itself after 3 or 4 start/restart cycles. If it doesnt then the dealer should pull the codes on it for you just to be safe. You basically did a software reset like pulling the ECU.
OH yeah and you can also clear the service light by doing this...
here is how to reset the service light:
1) Press and hold the trip button
2) Insert key and turn to position 1
3) Watch for RESET to appear
4) Release the button, then press hold it again
5) Wait for the RESET to flash
6) Release the button, and then press release (once only)
7) Service interval should then be reset
You might just want to wait for the start restart cycles or try this.
