My family and I will be moving to San Antonio Texas. I had a question about the vehicle requirements. On my 2004 MCS I have M7 springs with the stock 15s on 205/55/15 tires. I know to register my car I need to pass a safety inspection do you think I would have any issues?
I noticed in the gallery the majority of mini owners do not have front plates but the texas driving hand book stated you are required to have both.
Please help

I don't think you will have problems with the inspection. I have a front plate on mine because you are supposed to still here in Texas. They keep on talking about passing a law where the front won't be required, but it never seems to happen. Many people go without the front plate, but if you don't have it in the car and they pull you over for speeding or something then they can also ticket you for the plate. The dealer had already drilled holes in my bumper for it, so it's easier just to leave mine on and not have to worry about it.

Welcome to the club Sonny.
I went by an inspection station this morning to varify and indeed a front license plate is not required. I installed the front license plate because I didn't want the risk of anything extra in the event of a traffic violation. I have been given citations in five counties and the local county patrol men know me by name.

So the M7 spring on 15 inch hollies are O.K. Right?
Yeah I had a lowered S4 and never had problems getting it inspected. The new Law did pass and the front plate is no longer needed. Although I have custom plates so I dont mind it so much. . BTW welcome to the club :)

So they really did pass it now? Do new registrations come with only one plate then? If a lot of cars out on the road start driving with one plate then it might be worth taking it off. :thumbsup

I don't believe that law was passed. On Christmas eve morning a state trooper gave me a warning ticket for no front plate

On a related note.... Are those long euro style license plates legal in Texas? I've always wanted some but wasn't sure if they were legal or not. Anyone have some and know where I can purchase some online? Thanks.

If my post earlier wasn’t clear, I was talking about the plate not being required for passing inspection. With the aero bumper and plate mount about a half square foot of area for the heat exchanger and radiator had been covered. Today I moved it to the driver’s side so just call me snaggletooth.
I watched the San Antonio Sports Car Association autocross today. There’s a young lady with a MCS who makes really good time around the course. The early wet conditions made for exciting viewing and it was entertaining to see early model sedate sedans creeping through the course with squealing tires. I kept turning around expecting to see a crash but it was only the sedans pushing their limits. Of course there were hot cars with fat sticky tires there also.

I will probably go to next months autocross if I can make it. It'll give me a chance to put the sway bar on full stiff and see what happens. Should be a fun time. :thumbsup
