Hey all, how abouts a Bat Cave run in early June on either of the first or second weekend. In order to accomodate schedules, lets try to do this Sunday afternoon (Will!). So, that's June 4 or June 11.
We'd arrive at the Bat Cave just before sundown and stay to see the bats exit the cave. We'll hash out the details later once we see the interest level.
Any takers?

whats the batcave run? more info. pleaseThere is a Bat Cave northwest of town. Its open to the public (for a $5 fee per person - state park type thing). At 20 minutes before sundown a ranger comes out and does a talk about bats. Then at sundown, the bats (3 million of them) come out of the cave. You'll be standing right there and the bats will fly around you.
And, the best part is, we'll have a MINI run worked out to arrive at the Bat cave in time for the bats coming out. :dancing Historically, its been one of the favorite runs for the MINI club.
Hope you can come out.

Actually it is free if we watch from the top. If you go down to the bottom to listen to it then there might be a fee, but you run the chance of getting crapped on. :eek2 :p

There is a $5 fee if you walk down to the closer viewing area.
OH yeah!! I love those roads!!!

Okay, all, lets do the Bat Cave run on Sunday June 4. We can meet at the Exxon station at Bandera and 1604. I'll work out the times and when I do I will post all of that in a new thread. I still need someone to help with the exact route, so if you have a map from a previous run, let me know.

Mike and I are new to the club, as of today. We live in Comfort, host "city" of the bat cave. We would like to join you on the run. Has the date been set yet? Where do you meet for that run? We are a purple haze mini s convertible. Love that car!! Please let us know. Thank you, Jan and Mike.

We usually meet at Bandera Rd. and 1604 to start. Then we'll take a ride around some of the twistees around there.
I am debating whether to have this be a split motor, with about 1 hour run, then dinner somewhere, then another hour to the cave. What says everyone?
Sounds good Steve. We need to definately do another Shiner run this year!!

Okay, I did some driving around today to get the route for the Bat Tunnel/Cave run. I have it, so here is the plan --
Kathy and I will be at a restaurant at Bandera and 1604 around 5pm on Sunday June 4 for dinner (we'll pick a place and let you know). Anyone here is welcome to meet us there and join us for dinner.
Then, we will meet at the Exxon at Bandera and 1604 at 6pm, first car out at 6:15pm.
We should arrive at the Bat Tunnel at around 8pm or so. The bats come out at dusk, which will be around 8:30pm. (I need to check the times, so I will do that this week).
If you are doing the run, put your name below:
1. Steve and Kathy, Azuul

I'm not sure yet. That is kinda late for a Sunday night. Are you driving up hwy 16 also? If so, that will be a fairly lengthy run. Personally, I would prefer to drive up hwy 16 to Fredericksburg earlier(say first car out at like 1PM), stop to eat in Frederickburg, then head down the batcave run afterwards and pick up I10 for the way back. Or take I10 to Comfort and drive up the batcave road to Fredericksbug, stop to eat, then take the batcave road back afterwards and pick up I10 home. That way people can leave from Fredericksburg whenever they want. Those that want to get home can leave early and those that want to stay for the bats can stay later. Just my two cents. If it were Saturday night then I'd be there for sure or if it were next weekend, since most have memorial day off. :thumbsup
I think I saw Azuul on Broadway this evening too.

I know its late for a Saturday night, but that's when the bats come out and I chose Sunday because in the past several people have said that they can't do Saturday runs. For now, lets leave it.
WHOOHOOO!! So its June 11 (Sunday) 6pm?

I may need to revise the start time to be a bit earlier since the message is now saying that the bats emerge from 7:45pm to 8:30pm. I will start a new thread once I have all the info, probably tomorrow.

Yup, I don't think you would make it if you leave at 6-6:30. To go down and listen to the tour guide thing you have to be even earlier usually...probably like 7-7:15 at least.

Sounds great - too bad I won't be there yet. I'll have to catch the next one.
