The [Motor not bike to] Shiner run has been rescheduled to Saturday August 20. This run will be coordinated with the Houston MINI clubs, since they are also planning a run to Shiner on the same day!
The run will be a bit different that what we had planned earlier. This run will include a tour (and tastings!!) at the Shiner Brewery at noon. So, the run will be in the morning from the same start place (exit 193 of IH35 between Austin and San Antonio). The after the brewery tour, the plans are still in flux, but I am hoping to set up a joint run after lunch somewhere (or maybe in Luling???). Then, back to Shiner to check-in and watch some movies.
More details will becoming soon.
You can send me a PM and/or reply below if you plan to attend.

Would it be possible to meet up for just the afternoon or morning run? I'm not too interested in the brewery tour and not sure if I want to motor back and forth all day long. Motoring down for dinner and some drive-in movies sounded fun, but this sounds like it might be trying to do too much in one day. I need to stay out of trouble too...no more tickets! ;) I might visit a friend around then too, since she will be back from summer break and teaching in McAllen once again. I will have to get back to you in a little while I guess.

Okay, based on your comments, we are offering 3 Shiner run options:
Option #1 (for the diehard)
1. Meet at the previously determined spot between SA and Austin - IH35 exit 193 )will figure out the time later and I will post)
2. Motor to Shiner in time for the brewery tour.
3. Lunch.
4. Post-lunch afternoon run with the Houston MINIs.
5. Check-in at motel or hang out.
6. Movie.
7. Motel or motor home.
Option #2 (for the less diehard late sleepers)
1. Motor directly to Shiner to meet up with everyone after the tour at the brewery at about 2pm.
2. Lunch somewhere in Shiner
3. After lunch run with Houston MINIs.
4. Check-in at motel or hang out.
5. Movie
6. Motel or motor home.
Option #3 (for the less diehard early risers)
1. Meet at the previously determined spot between SA and Austin - IH35 exit 193 )will figure out the time later and I will post)
2. Motor to Shiner in time for the brewery tour.
3. Lunch.
4. Motor home
I know this is a lot, but what do y'all think?
And, so when you sign up, let me know what option you are choosing so when we know where/when to look for you.

I've got a list on the STMC site -- we have 5 cars so far. This much in advance, that's pretty good. Plus, I believe that Houston hopes to have somewhere between 12 -15 cars or more, so that's a bunch of MINIs!!

Okay peoples, if you are signed up to do the Shiner run this coming Saturday, and you are chosing option #1 (MINI diehard) or option #3 (MINI non diehard early risers), then the plan is to meet at Exit 193 off of IH35 at 9am. First car out at 9:15am
With our 2 plus hour run, that should get us to the brewery at somewhere between 11:30am and noon. As I am not sure exactly where the brewery is in Shiner, we might need to stop and ask.
Anyway, see all of the diehards at 0900.
For option #2 (MINI non diehards, late sleepers) meet us at the brewery in Shiner at 2pm. We will try to arrange a run from Shiner to Luling and get something to eat at the barbeque there.

We have an update on the movies - it's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and The Dukes of Hazzard. Michelle from the Houston MINIs let Steve at Crossroads Theater know to expect about 20 MINIs or so. Also, we're confirmed at the brewery for our free tour! Any other takers?

Azuul,

Post an afternoon schedule. We'd love to have you. We are meeting the Houston MINIs at the Shiner Brewery at noon or so. The tour takes about 2 hours. Then, my goal is to convince everyone to motor to Luling for lunch, and then do a run after lunch back to Shiner. Call me on my cell phone sometime after noon and I'll give you more info. Number is 210-393-6213.

The weather is looking good for Saturday 8/20. Here are a couple of other things to remember for the run:
1. If we eat at City Market in Luling (and I sure hope we can make a run there), remember its a cash only BBQ place. Also, they are only open until 6pm. Note that the places to eat in Shiner are few and far between, so maybe we can convince the Houston MINIs to run to Luling for BBQ.
2. You will need to bring chairs, and/or blankets for the drive-in, unless you want to sit in the MINI some more. :) Also, bug spray would be a good idea. Maybe a few snacks since lunch will likely be around 3pm.
3. Bring your walkie talkies!! Fully charged!!
Kathy has made everyone who signs up a "GOODIE BAG" of candy and such for the movies. So sign up for the run and get a goodie bag!
Recap: Meet at the TA gas station at IH35 exit 193 between Austin and San Antonio at 9am, first car out at 9:15am. You can gas up there at the station. Also, there is a restaraunt there, so you can grab some grub on the way out. Then, we run to Shiner and arrive at the Brewery somewhere between 11:30am and noon. Tour of the brewery with the Houston MINIs until 2pm. Then, hopefully, a run to Luling for some BBQ. Then back to Shiner, check in at motels and meet at the drive-in at 8:30pm ish for the movies, The Dukes of Hazzard and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
I heard from Michelle of the Houston MINIs that they have 13 MINIs, so there will be a gaggle of MINIs in Shiner.
A full day, but a fun day!!
RECAP OF THE SAN ANTONIO/AUSTIN RUNNERS:

I don't think so, but I will have to have some other people ride in it or just sit in it to smell it. I looked at the front and saw some damp substance(not sure if it was spray or guts) on the black plasctic bumper trim. I think I might have gotten away just in time.
My plastic lower grill in the front bumper popped out from bottoming it out last week or possibly from scraping it on the run yesterday. Looks like that will have to be upgraded to a metal grill. How difficult is it to change the lower grill?

I haven't looked at our pics yet but if we have some new ones I'll post those. I also have a .trk file from my GPS if anyone is interested. I haven't tried, but I hear you can load it to the upgraded version of Google Earth for those running PCs. (Not available for Mac yet)
Final count on the windshield was 2 cracks (one at the top is a nice Y shape) and a good chip. Also the front end paint and chrome looks like it went through a cheese grater. Oh well, battle scars. :o

Hello Danny. It's me Greg, weezer, the quiet one. It was great to meet everyone from Houston on the Shiner run. I will be at the HCR and should see you there. Right now I'm switching my center console over from the center armrest style to the normal one, and I think I'm going to order that Euro parcel shelf and put that in at the same time hopefully. Seeing the people that had it on the Shiner run got me interested in that. How do you like the Alta intake? I'm hoping to add that soon too. :thumbsup

take lots of pictures for the rest of usDoing that. Drove behind a DS/B MCS yesterday with a MINI Motoring Society of Hawaii sticker on the rear windshield. Wondered why she wasn't responding as I followed her. Then I realized my wife and I were in a Chevy Malibu and not one of our MINIs!!!! :D
We are looking for the MINI dealer in Honolulu so we can take a picture there, but so far we can't find it. We'll keep looking.
