It's now in and functioning. I just need to put the rear seat and panels back in now. :thumbsup

Greg, forgive my ignorance. What is a JL Audio Stealthbox

It is a 10" JL Audio subwoofer and a box that is custom made to fit the rear of a MINI. It provides a lot of bass and can shake the car when really turned up. It adds a lot of punch to the stock stereo system. :thumbsup
I still have a custom amp mount in the works. It involves using one of those useless rear "strut" bars and making it useful. :D
Greg, Does that work with the stock stereo system? What else do you need to add to get it to work?

Yup, I have it running off the stock stereo system. If you have Harmon Kardon the install is a little different since it has an amp from the factory built in. You need a line out converter, a 250-300W amp, and the stealthbox. The line out converter taps into the rear speakers, the remote for the amp taps into the 12V outlet in the rear, and the power comes from the battery under the hatch floor. The wiring plus everything else will run about $900. It is a little pricey, but the sound is fantastic. I will take more pictures this weekend as I put everything back together. :thumbsup
My hatch floor is modded now too so the battery can be accessed without having to take apart the rear seat or removing the sub.

So it started out looking like this:

All the rear panels were removed and also the rear seat. Plastic junk was everywhere as well as wires and torque wrenches. Some of the yellow plastic panel clips were still stuck to the body of the car.

I've been told by a few people that the clips are easy to break, but I didn't break a single one. My mom's trusty bottle opener helped out a ton and fit around the slot in the clip perfectly to yank it out.

The yellow clip thingy:

The rear seat latch also has to be removed to take out or put in the rear side panels. Two 13mm bolts is all it takes.

The lower rear seatbelt bolt also needs to be removed. It is a T50 torx!

The grab handle in the rear is there for a reason.

After that just snap the panels back in and put back the 3 screws in the hatch area. It also helps to pull out the weatherstripping near the doors and in the hatch area before putting the panels back in so they fit right. Then after they are snapped back the weatherstripping goes over the panels.

Good pics of your install. I'll use them for reference since I'm getting ready to upgrade myself - new HU (Alpine), XM, speakers. I think I'm going with a flat Kenwood sub that will fit under the passenger seat. I need room in the back for golf clubs!
Bump for test ride invite *cough* Greg *Cough*

The one I got came in last Friday. I don't like how it mounts though. I may modify it so the stock rear seat mounts can still be used with the rubber grommet. Right now I just dismantled it and I need to figure something out.
I did notice though that when I had the rear seats out the rear seemed to flex more and felt different. I don't know if it really was or not, but it felt different to me.
Will, when do you want to meet?

well it should have come with new mounts to where the rear seats latch in.. then screws in through that. I think keith was telling me something in the body makes it so they don't do anything. I definatly dont feel a difference. when I worked with my uncles race car we used braces purely to keep the chassi from flexing under extreme power.
With my seats removed it felt a tad bit quicker but not really different. it makes sense that it would though. I almost wondered if that luggage hide device in the back helps at all.
edit: did it not come with new mounts that still have the little rings for the seats???

More pics as this project is getting almost near completion:
An amp rack Joseph from Eurosport Underground built for me this morning:

I decided to install the rear brace anyways since I did buy it. I modified the rubber so they fit over the new brackets and it looked better that way. The bar adds some aesthetics to the hatch area.

Most of the wiring is between the amp and sub box. There is a gap between the two because of the way the sub box is made. I still need to trim the wiring down some...I haven't done anything to it yet. I was going to make a cover for it with the MINI logo engraved in it, which should hide all the wires though. :thumbsup
