I have posted this request on NAM also. My purpose is to fabricate an improved design intake manifold and want to use the flanges where it mounts to the cylinder head, and also where the throttle body mounts. I will then test the manifold on my car and report the results. If the results are significantly beneficial, I will get the new design produced. This could end up being a cheap and easy to install performance add-on. I don't have the spare cash to buy the manifold, so I'm looking for a donation, but everyone could benefit in the end. -Jeffy.

Thanks for your consideration. I'm thinking that my different design will provide more power increase than a ported and polished stock one... Hope you don't mind changing manifolds twice! -Jeffy. :D

do you have the design in mind already? do you think the computer will need to be flashed to compensate for the new amount of air?

One time I unintentially left a vacuum hose disconnected after a mod, and though it idled with a surge for about 30 seconds, the computer compensated for it! It changed to a smooth idle while I watched. Then, when I found the vacuum hose disconnected, I re-connected it, and waited for the surging to stop again- it did, much to the interest of an onlooking co-worker. I have been thinking about buying a programmer to raise full-throttle shift points on my cvt, to take advantage of the better breathing mods I have already made. It seems that just when the engine is starting to get " It's ears flat", it shifts. So, I bet I won't need a flash, just a little time for the computer to adapt to the latest. My car is an '02 with 70k miles, and it never needs fixing. Minis are good stuff. I would like to keep this same one for a really long time.

I'm surprised the CVT is still running well. Quite a few people have had the CVT break in that mileage range. How much power do you think you've added?

I'm guessing 20 hp. The cvt slips instead of breaking, which is prefferable! When it does break, I will fix it myself and post accordingly. I still don't consider the car any kind of fast, since I have a fast bike which keeps things in perspective, but, the longer I own the car, the faster it will get. One thing I do with the cvt is change the oil alot, and use 2qts 5w30 Mobil1, and 2qts ATF. This is a slippery and heat tolerant combination. -Jeffy.
