I think I'm waiting for the next gen iPhone. I'm still disappointed about a few things with the current version. Such as...
ATT&T Only - if only they could manage to improve their network speed and reliability
No built in GPS module
No video recording
No MMS (read if you want to send someone a pic you have to use email)
No ability for custom ringtones

Well I got one, havent tried integrating it with the MINI yet. I had a blackjack before which ran on the next gen network but suprisingly the iphone is faster surfing the web on GSM. Its really cool being able to actually surf the web any where. Its not a slim down version of a browser like the mobile version its a full browser for the most part.
I've never had GPS on a phone so I dont miss that as much. I have a garmin GPS which is really good maybe thats why. I can see how that would be handy though. I do hope the offer that in the future especially with this display.
Agree here not sure why they didnt do video. The display is so great its a shame.
I do hope the add this as a software update to the phone. You cant send them but you can still actually receive them, you'll be prompted to view the MMS in Safari. I do agree they need to adjust that not sure why you cant MMS out.
Custom ringtones has been addressed in the next release of Itunes. It will come with a utility to chop up current media in your library and use it as ring tones. We'll see how the implement that.
Overall though for a v1.0 phone its pretty dang good. It does everything I used my Blackjack for but much much slicker. The phone interface is really good. We'll see what they come up with next but overall Apple raised the bar for how phones should be going forward.

How is the text messaging?
Really easy in fact I find myself texting more now than ever before. The touch screen takes a bit of getting used too. At first I didnt like it but now its really easy, my fingers got used to where to touch. There are some new features/user requests coming up in the next software release. Which btw is another thing I like about this phone. Apple is pretty good about doing updates unlike most phone manufactures.
Just like the MINI it gets a lot of attention and is a conversation starter where ever I go. Its pretty cool.

I look forward to seeing what software updates will have to offer in terms of improving functionality. Make no mistake about it though, I do want one. I am hopeless mac fan boy. I haven't even gone to the apple store to demo one yet...I'm affraid I wont be able to resist the urge to buy. :D

Yup most people dont really appreciate them until they seem one and try it. I've had a few people at the office bring it up and more or less bad mouth the phone and they havent even seen one. Then I show them mine and they are impressed and one guy even bought one.
No ability for custom ringtones
Apparently there is a third party software out there that allows you to do this now but its mac only atm. My co-worker now has custom ringtones :) :dancing

Hello...just thought I'd add my two cents. I have an iPhone and love it. There are things that could use an upgrade and I'm sure they are coming down the line soon, such as the ringtone thing, which doesn't bother me all that much because I don't have the time anymore to customize sound bytes. I'm sure that's an important part of the phone to some people though.
MMS wasn't all that great of a system to begin with...many of my friends couldn't get the photos or had issues and it seemed to be more of a pain in the a** most of the time. I am not shooting video at random, so I prefer a "real" video camera with excellent capabilities instead of ANY camera phone which shoots grainy/crappy video and is usually limited by time and the tiny hard drive capacity of the phone.
I like the fact its integrated, meaning everything syncs with my Mac at home and I have the same Address Book on both with all the correct information all the time. I can show people my photos of whatever on a nice large screen which rotates automatically when I turn the phone.
I love messaging...once you trust the intuitive keyboard you can type like a maniac. My friends who don't have an iPhone say they find it hard to keep up.
Overall, it works great and it's certainly ahead of all other phones in terms of being unique. The WiFi is fabulous, comes in handy in many places I frequent. EDGE could be better...I imagine AT&T has gotten enough crap about that recently and I think they will be boosting that as soon as they can. :dancing
