Since I put the rear seats back in my MINI, another mounting location was needed for my fire extinguisher.

The Brey-Krause fire extinguisher mount will keep my fire extinguisher close at hand.

Tools needed:
T-40 Torx Socket, T-40 Torx Bit, 4mm Allen socket,
3/8 inch or ½ inch drive ratchet, optional ¼ drive mini ratchet
¼ inch box end wrench, 3/8 inch open end wrench
Torque wrench
Small Hammer and wide punch/drift
Brake cleaner, blue thread locker

Remove passenger side front & rear seat rail bolts with a T-40 Torx socket.

Move the seat on its side and disconnect the three air bag connectors.

The seat can be turned on its back while in the vehicle or removed where it will be easier to work on. The forward two seat rail bolts will need removal.

The rail bolts are secured well, so it will require leverage to break them free; the problem here is limited room to fit a conventional socket and ratchet. Here I’m using a T-40 bit in a ¼ box end wrench with a piece of plastic bag placed over the bit to keep it in place while turning the wrench.

After the bolt is loosened, a ¼ inch drive mini ratchet can unscrew it the remainder of the way. If the ratchet were used to break the bolt free there would be a risk of damage to the diminutive ratchet’s gear or pawl.

A problem with clearance for the seat height mechanism was encountered with this particular mount. The openings would not fit over both mechanisms on each side of the seat.

I had to enlarge the openings with various files to make room.

Degrease the forward seat rail bolts and apply blue thread locker before fastening.

Return the seat to its original position, reconnect the air bag connectors, and screw the seat rail to the floor. Start with hand tightening the rears bolts, move the seat to rear and screw the forward bolts in, tightening to 26 ft-lbs, then torque the rear bolts to spec.

The wire mount for my 2.5lb Safecraft Halon fire extinguisher required an adaptor plate; the attachment points on the wire mount needed to be moved with a drift and hammer to match the adaptor plate threaded bolt holes.

The adaptor plate is secured with four, flat head countersunk screws; I’m sorry but I don’t know the size Allen wrench for these bolts other than it is a standard non-metric.

Four 3/8ths inch nylon lock nuts were supplied with the adaptor plates including instructions for their use, so I did, but the main bracket has threaded holes negating the nuts.

Two 4mm Allen socket button head screws are used to fasten the wire mount. The attachment hardware included two oversized washers, but I used 4 smaller, better fitting washers instead; one underneath, and one on top for each screw.

The fire extinguisher installed on the Brey-Kraus mount.
