I had a layer of reflective tint, which does not have a color(weird) put on Daddy's tint, and an eyebrow, it cooled the vehicle off big time. Shade is a good idea too.

I have those sunshades from Stratmosphere. They work great, but it's best to just leave them in for the summer. They can be a little annoying taking in and out. Once it cools off a little more and the sun isn't as intense I'll take them back out...well if I ever get my car back from the service department. I considered the white roof decal at first, but decided on those because they aren't permanent and are much easier to remove.

In fact, I'd like to see your MINI someday. I'm off for this next week, so maybe you'll have your baby back when I return and you cans show the sunshades next time.

I should have her back this week sometime, unless they find a way to destroy my DME unit. I'm actually supposed to talk to Dietz Froelicke, the regional manager, on Monday about everything. MINIUSA even called me today to do a survey on the service and apparently they had been told my car was finished, but I told them I didn't have it back yet. They are supposed to call again in a week.

The shades are great. It's more like a sunroofless hardtop when you put them up. They help a lot at keeping the seats cooler and protect the plastic bits. I wasn't sure at first if they could be left in the sunroof because of the possibility of glare, but you can't really see them since the glass is tinted. I was just leaving them up even when driving, especially the one in the rear. The only downside is that when the front one is up you can't really use the sunroof to vent. After you take them in and out a few times they do get "broken in" and are easier to fit. I also have their sunshade for the windshield, which is actually sitting in my house right now.

If I get her back maybe I'll go to the First Friday at Biffs. If I do get her back this week though, she will be treated to a nice run up highway 16 to Fredricksburg this weekend. That reminds me that I still need to register for the Hill Country Rendezvous. :)

A run up 16 sure would be nice :D How do you like the sunshade for the windshield? I was thinking of picking that one up.

The sunshade for the windshield is alright. The fit is a little undersized so it does leave some little gaps, but 98% of the windshield is probably blocked. If I were to buy one again I think there are some less expensive sunshades at minimania and outmotoring that I would go with. The stratmosphere one does its job though and is real easy to take in and out and stores easily with the velcro strap on it. I have the sensor on the windshield behind the rear view mirror and it fits around that great.

I actually went up that way today cause I was bored and on the way back got a speeding ticket on I-10. I was doing 84 in a 70 in the dealer loaner and just saw a state trooper flying across the median at me at the last second. I actually thought he was going after the person in front of me who was also speeding, but for some reason he came after me. I think he wanted to stop me at first because he also saw that I didn't have a front license plate, but then when he pulled up behind me he saw it was a dealer plate. I told him that it was a loaner since my vehicle was in for repairs, but he told me that I wasn't supposed to be driving a car with dealer plates. This was my first time ever getting a speeding ticket and a little upsetting. Does anyone know how the driver safety class works and if that clears your record? I think I'm leaning towards that instead of paying the fine.

I still might be up for a hwy 16 run, but I will not be speeding on I-10 anymore.

Greg that stinks!! :( I would definately look into getting one of those ticket lawyers here in town. They know all the little tricks like finding out when the officer is off and scheduling the court date that day. When the officer doesnt show up they dismiss it. You might pay more in the long run (flat lawyer fee) but you stand a higher chance of it getting dropped. If anything you come out with defensive driving or probation, both of which are no big deal.

sorry to hear that, I got clocked over 120mph in NM on the way to Santa Fe, the troopers did not know what to do with me, I got away with it ( I can tell you my secrets, but not on the forums:), and 2 months ago got a speeding ticket for motoring at 54 at 45 on Huebner Rd., that was the first ticket I got and I took Defencive Driving Courses and dropped the ticket form my record. It happens, now I have Escort Radar Detector and it is pretty accurate, saved my life couple of times already. Take the course, you will be fine, maybe the cop won't show-up, like Will said, and your case will be dropped. Sorry for the ticket, however it is their job, and our job is to motor undercover at high speeds.

I learned to drive in California and over there it is pretty much common to drive 5-10mph over the speed limit with no problems. 14 is a few over I guess. I can't believe that 54 in a 45 on Huebner! That's silly. I'm glad they didn't catch me when I was motoring at 110mph though. I e-mailed a ticket lawyer just to see what they say, but probably am going to do defensive driving. Just wanted to ask the lawyer if it was at all possible to have it reduced to a warning. Where did you take the Defensive Driving course and was it difficult at all? A lot of MINI owners have been very helpful on this topic. Looks like this next year I will be abiding by the law and then after that I may get a radar detector.

Greg,

You can take defensive driving online and I'm sure they have several local places around. I've been lucky or rather I have a V1 plus Laser blinders so its damn hard to catch me speeding ;) so I dont know of any places down here. The Last place I got a ticket was up near Dallas and I was driving my buddies truck. Same as you the trooper is sliding sidways across the medium acting like someone robbed a bank. Next thing I know he is on my tail.

Is a V1 a radar detector and what are Laser Blinders? I just got my car back today and no problems returning the loaner...phew! I think I may go the comedy defensive driving route...a number of people have recommended that to me. Why not laugh and get a ticket dismissed at the same time.

The V1 is pretty much the best radar detector you can buy, it not only tells you from what direction the radar is coming from, i.e. front, back, side but it tells you how many hits you are taking. So for example on a couple of runs to Dallas I came up to one of those stationary radar units. But my V1 was telling me there were two bogeys ahead. I slowed down and the guy next too me who did have a radar cause I could see it going off as he passed me (like mine was) kept going.. Needless to say there was a cop just past the stationary unit and he got the guy in front of me.

The Laser blinders do just that, they blind/jam a laser gun. Laser is an instant on off deal. So if you are hit with laser you are in site of the trooper and it gives them an instant reading. My blinder scrambles the laser giving them a bogus unusable reading back. Combined with the V1 which detects laser as soon as I am hit with laser I immediately slow down and shut the the blinder so that when the trooper hits me again I am doing the speed limit and he doesnt get a scrambled signal. Both have saved my butt a bunch of times..
