View Full Version : Does anyone know how to eliminate the speed governor?

My Cooper quits accellerating at 110 mph, and will hold that speed even if I lift off the throttle some, so I know it's about a governor. Also, if anyone knows of a chip offered that can raise my full-throttle shift points to 6500rpm, please let me know. Mine's not supercharged, but I still want to make it fast. Any input is appreciated. -Jeffy.

In US, it is kind of limited to find sources to remap the ECU to get up to higher speeds, however these two links should be good starting point.

110 is pretty fast though, are you sure you want to go faster

You will go faster if you go to a Track:)

start off with MTH, it as done good things for coopers I am told and one is that it raises the rev limiter/top speed. I can have tested the rev limiter and it works. Haven't gone over 125 yet, can't get there down the TWS grand stand straight (I haven't got the last 3 turns down yet.)

go to www.minimods.us or cooperspeed.com to read up on MTH

...Even on the highway. Today my 110mph almost wasn't enough to escape an F-250 turbo diesel ranch truck! I pass on my 2-laner to Yancey and I end up in a top speed contest. Imagine if it's a Honda V-tec, or a Camaro. I can't find the "Race me" sign on my car but all thekids and "tuners" can. 110 is a grandma slow top speed, never mind getting a good drive onto the straight at Texas World Speedway. -Jeffy.

If you had an S you could do 130mph. The only way to overcome the force of the air at those speeds is to get more power out of your engine. The MINI has quite a bit of aerodynamic drag from its shape and there is no way of changing that drastically. It's not designed to be a 200mph supercar! 110 is plenty fast...just wait until you get that speeding ticket! :thumbsup

The big pickup truck drivers seem to have a problem with MINIs passing them. It happens to me all the time. I think it's a lack of testosterone...:o I'll (most times - unknowingly) pass one, then a few seconds later, here they come flying past me. This happens on regular in-town streets as well as the highway. I think it's funny. :p Let them get up to top speed and then let them have it ;) .... the ticket they get will be their reward for winning! :D

Oh, yeah, get MTH, it does wonders to a stock Cooper or S.

Jeffy,

the real deal is how fast you can accelerate to 110mph. I think, instead of increasing the top speed, you should focus on better acceleration, trust me, if you get to 110 faster than the other, it will make a bigger impact. I run circles around almost anything on the road (in realistic terms, would not challenge a 360 or M3 or Corvette) such as Civics, VTIs, GTIs, VR6s even Impreza Turbos.

You can start with an exhaust, air intake and short shifter, then remap ECU, then you should not have any problems...

I don't know what others think... My 2 cents :thumbsup

First, what the heck is a gosh-darn MTH? Or a tradius? Dog gone it! You all are pretty funny-first tell me to keep my car a slug, then tell me how blindingly fast yours is. Well, it happens that I may even have something to offer. I found out that the stock plug wires have very high resistance, so I installed some Accel 8mm custom wires with the HEI coil terminals. The resistance is 1/5 that of stock. Then I opened the plug gap another .005 (because I now have enough current to do so!), using Autolite Platinum 5224, instead of stock-type plugs. I can get 400 miles from a tank of gas, even with a CVT. I've got more... But for now, smoke that! -love, Jeffy.

Well,

You asked the question, I tried to answer with my best, if the out-burst was directed to me, also what happened to "All inputs are appreciated"? :D

Anyways, having 400 miles per tank is priceless, especially nowadays.

What other mods are on the list?

Please do not be a stranger, would like to see you more often...

And finally, please keep in mind, it is not the machine, it is the driver :thumbsup :bows

Peace

I have a 180 degree thermostat, modified muffler, K&N cone-type air filter, the lower (fake) grill opening opened to allow actual airflow, and a heat escape route at the aft passenger side of the engine room (not visible with hood/bonnet closed). -Jeffy.
